What Would You Want Built There?
If something is going to be built on the 79 acres, which of these would you choose? One choice each, one vote per person, and votes were final once confirmed.
| A park, school or other civic use | 8 | 36% | |
|---|---|---|---|
| A data center | 5 | 23% | |
| A hospital or medical campus | 4 | 18% | |
| Shops and restaurants | 3 | 14% | |
| A warehouse or distribution center | 1 | 5% | |
| Offices | 1 | 5% | |
| Light manufacturing or a machine shop | 0 | 0% |
What This Is, and What It Is Not
Twenty-two votes is a small number. Everyone who voted had just read a long report about the site, and nobody was chosen at random. This is not a survey of Lavon and it does not measure what the town thinks. Each vote is worth about four and a half points, so a one or two vote gap between the middle options means nothing at all. If it gets quoted at a council meeting as evidence of public opinion, it is being quoted wrongly, and that is worth saying here rather than waiting to correct it later.
Two things stand out anyway. A civic use, a park or a school, was the most common answer. And a data center was the second most common, ahead of shops, warehousing, offices and manufacturing. A data center was somebody's first choice more often than any ordinary commercial use on the list was. That is not what most people would guess about a town in the middle of this argument, and it is published here for the same reason everything else in the report is: it is what the numbers say.
How the Votes Were Counted
This matters more than the totals do, so it is not in a footnote.
- 18Recorded from the evening of August 21 to midday on August 22, under the original rule of one vote per device. Email confirmation was not switched on yet.
- 4Confirmed by email, from the afternoon of August 22 to the night of August 27, under the rule of one vote per confirmed address.
- 2Asked for a confirmation link and never clicked it. Not counted, in either direction.
The rule changed partway through because the mailer went live partway through. One vote per device is the weaker of the two rules and most of this count sits under it. That is the honest limit on these numbers and there is no way to go back and re-run it, so it is printed beside them instead.
What Happened to the Addresses
The page promised that an address given to vote would be kept only long enough to check that each vote came from one person, and then deleted. Every voting address is deleted on August 29, 2026. None was added to any mailing list and none ever will be. The three lists on this site, the paper, the reports and the poll, are separate tables, and nothing has moved between them.
Exactly two things were ever sent to one of those addresses: the link that confirmed the vote, and, on August 28, a single copy of this result. The page had said the results would be posted and that nothing else would be sent, so the second message is an exception to what was written there. It says so at the top, in those words, and it is the only one that will be made. Saying it here rather than hoping nobody notices is the whole point of publishing a page like this one.
